Sharlo Terrace, located at the 4915 Alvin Dark Drive, was completed in August 1977. The complex consists of 20 buildings: one duplex and 19 fourplex. The 78 units (46 efficiency and 32 one bedroom) are handicapped accessible. Some apartments have been modified for the visually and hearing impaired.
Constructed of beige brick with slate blue trim, each apartment is furnished with and oven/range, refrigerator, smoke detector and fire extinguisher. Residents enjoy a community center and laundry and maintenance facilities.
A quiet residential community
Situated on almost nine acres, Sharlo Terrace offers a quiet residential setting with its tree-shaded sitting areas, spacious grounds for outdoor events and ample parking. Located off Nicholson Dr and minutes from Louisiana State University and the central business district, the complex is on the city bus line. Via public transportation, residents have access to grocery stores, banks, schools, retail centers, clinics and hospitals.
Sharlo Terrace is designed to meet the needs of senior citizens and the mentally and physically challenged. It is one of three sites of the Baton Rouge Housing Authority has set aside for this purpose. Presently, the complex is almost 100% occupied. Maintenance personnel are available 24 hours for emergencies.
