Waitlist Information

1) How do I apply for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program Waiting List?

a) THE WAITING LIST IS CLOSED.

2) How do I confirm that I am on the Waiting List?

You can view your status 24 hours a day, 7 days a week online by accessing the Waitlist Status Lookup.

3) How long should I expect to remain on the Waiting List?

a) The availability of vouchers is based on funding and turnover within existing assisted families.  As such, it is difficult to estimate the length of time an applicant may be on the waiting list before being scheduled for an eligibility interview.  Likewise, the length of your wait will also depend on the number of applicants ahead of you (based on preference and date/time order of application) on the list.  On average, an applicant will wait several years before his/her name reaches the top of the list.  Since the demand for housing assistance often exceeds the limited funding available to the HAEBRP, long waiting periods are common.

4) Now that I am on the Waiting List, how and when will I be contacted by the Housing Authority?

a) All communication concerning the waiting list and eligibility for the program is done via mail to the mailing address on file.  Please do not call the PHA for information regarding your Waiting List status, as this slows down the processing of applications.  Applicants can confirm that they are on the Waiting List by checking online per above.

b) Within 30-days of applying to the Waiting List, the Housing Authority will send you a letter confirming receipt of your application.

c) If you claimed a preference, you will be sent a separate letter scheduling you for a preference interview so you can provide documentation to prove your claim to that preference.  The preference interview is not the same as the eligibility interview and is for the sole purpose of proving the preference(s) claimed by the applicant.  Only applicants claiming a preference will be scheduled for the preference interview.

d) As vouchers become available, the PHA will mail you a letter scheduling you (based on preference and date/time order) for an eligibility interview to determine your eligibility for the HCV Program.

e) At least once a year, the PHA will contact you via letter to determine if you are still interested in being on the waiting list.  Families that do not respond to that request by the deadline listed in the letter and/or fail to attend scheduled interviews will be removed from the waiting list per PHA policy.

5) How do I update my mailing address with the Housing Authority?

a) It is your responsibility to ensure that the Housing Authority has a current mailing address on record for you.  If your mailing address has changed, you must submit the change in writing to the Housing Authority.  Only written requests to change the mailing address will be accepted.  We will not accept requests to change an address over the phone.  If your mail is returned to the PHA for any reason, you will be removed from the waiting list.
