Rent in the private market
The Housing Choice Voucher program helps you rent a home from a private landlord. You choose where to live. EBRPHA pays part of your rent straight to the landlord. Your share depends on your income, so housing stays affordable as your life changes.
- Pay your share of the rent on time every month.
- Keep your home in good condition and follow your lease.
- Report any change in income or household size right away; do not wait for recertification.
- Complete your annual recertification by the deadline.
- Do not sublease your home or allow unauthorized occupant

Live in an EBRPHA community
Affordable housing communities are homes that EBRPHA owns and manages. You apply for a home in one of our communities. If EBRPHA approves you, you pay an income-based rent. On-site managers and support services are available to community members.

Report income changes to EBRPHA as soon as they happen; do not wait for your recertification. Changes affect your rent calculation, and unreported changes may lead to repayment or the end of your assistance.
Submit a Request to Move form to EBRPHA before you give notice to your landlord. After EBRPHA approves the move, you will receive a new voucher with a search deadline. Do not give notice until your move is approved.
Portability lets you use your voucher in another housing authority's area. Tell your EBRPHA specialist before you make any plans to move out of EBR Parish, and EBRPHA will coordinate the transfer with the receiving authority.
Missing your recertification deadline can end your housing assistance. If you are having trouble, contact your specialist as early as possible; EBRPHA can often work with you to avoid a lapse.
Yes, but you must ask EBRPHA for approval before you add anyone to your household. Unauthorized occupants can put your voucher at risk. Submit a household change request through the portal or contact your specialist directly.
